RICHARD DOWNING

online editing, and additional editing

Richard Downing’s experience with digital post production tracks closely with the industry’s experience with digital post production. In 1989, after a grounding in broadcast and commercial analogue videotape operating and editing, he transitioned to fully digital online and effects, by way of the revolutionary Quantel Harry non-linear editing and effects system.

After further upgrades to Henry and then discreet’s Flame he put down the tools in 2007 to direct the overall post production systems and pipelines at The Post Bangkok, then the leading post house in Thailand and one of the post production beacons of the region.

As part of that remit, he built and ran the DI department and, as part of the transition from digital film intermediates to fully digital releases, oversaw the implementation of ACES in 2012, surely one of the earliest uses of that colour pipeline framework anywhere in the world, certainly Asia.

Through his exposure to all aspects of post production, including extensive work with film scanners and the metadata needed to drive them, Richard was an unusually well-qualified candidate to tackle the numerous and anachronistic challenges thrown up by a project conceived with 20th century processes in mind.

Dan Goldman

Still photography

Through photography and the arts, I have traveled widely, and from this experience, have gained insights into other people's lives, and cultures, and an appreciation for multiculturalism in a global society.

My art practice began in my early twenties when I immersed myself in photography and art history.

In 2022, I was humbled to receive the Richard Edelman Award for my photography at WAAM.

Having been involved in several curatorial initiatives, significant recognition was received for his management of the “Smoke Signals” exhibit at Tivoli Art Gallery.

This exhibition dealt with social justice and the environmental degradation of Indigenous people’s lands. The exhibit included 22 artists from the Hudson Valley working in different mediums including photography, painting, and sculpture.

Last year, In co-curating Behind the Veil, Onaje Benjamin and I worked to provide a nuanced, critical examination of racism in America with a diverse range of regional contemporary artists, many of whose work represents their struggles with self, identity, and creative expression.

I regularly exhibit my work in the Hudson Valley, most recently in New York City, and am working to expand my reach to other locations around the country

Projects for 2024 include Icons and Walking Toward Eschaton.
